The Time Garden by Daria Song

And on Sunday, the Lord’s day, we color…

Every Sunday, Lily and I color. It’s a Mommy and daughter date, as we huddle around her Great-Great Grammy’s wooden table fully immersed in crayons, colored pencils and paper. Coloring is therapeutic. It’s calming. I enjoy the quiet time with Lily and it’s a nice change from the landslide of constant questions coming from her lips. We have oodles of kids coloring books, some of them have a few blank pages from my own childhood (because I couldn’t ever part with my Merry Christmas Charlie Brown coloring book!)

It wasn’t until recently that I saw on a Facebook group an entire thread on “Adult coloring books”. What? That is a THING?! I had NO idea!! Then I took a step back and tried to remember the last time I pulled out some crayons for my own enjoyment. Umm….middle school?? In High school I was a scrapbook obsessed teenager. I honestly can’t tell you the last time I pulled out coloring books just to color on my own time. CLEARLY, it has been entirely way too long! And that’s where the Sunday coloring day date began….

There are many options in the adult coloring category. Some are simple, some are very complex. I am enjoy the more complex coloring pages (maybe because it really makes me slow down and think.) I found one at Walmart that has animals and other wildlife. I found a bunch of mandala coloring books at Peaceable Kingdom, our locally own mom and pop frame store.

I also gave the internet a whirl and found this gem: The Time Garden by Daria Song. Book lovers and crayon lovers UNITE. This covers the best of both worlds: a lovely story, a giant imagination, beautifully complex illustrations…that you get to color in yourself! It is the cutest coloring book. It’s almost too perfect to bring the crayon to the paper. And what a master piece you have when finished!

Part of the fun of color day Sunday, is that Lily gets to pick out what Mommy colors (if the previous week’s choice was completed) and Mommy gets to pick out what Lily gets to color. I’m sure it won’t be long before Malcolm joins in on the coloring fun.
